Sex Toys Glossary
Vibrator
A device that uses vibration to stimulate erogenous zones such as the clitoris, penis, nipples, or anus. Vibrators come in many forms, including bullet vibrators (small, discreet), wand vibrators (powerful, external use), and dual-stimulators (often called “rabbit” vibrators). They can be used solo or with partners to enhance arousal and orgasm.
Dildo
A non-vibrating toy designed for penetration of the vagina or anus. Dildos come in a wide range of sizes, shapes, and materials (silicone, glass, rubber, metal). Some are realistic in design, while others are abstract. They may also be harness-compatible for strap-on play.
Butt Plug
A toy designed specifically for anal insertion and prolonged wear. Butt plugs are tapered for easy entry and have a flared base to prevent slipping inside. They can be smooth, textured, vibrating, or even jewel-tipped for visual appeal. Sizes vary from beginner-friendly to advanced.
Cock Ring
A ring worn around the base of the penis, or around both the penis and scrotum, to restrict blood flow and maintain erections. Cock rings can be made of silicone, rubber, or metal, and some feature vibration for additional stimulation for both partners. Safety requires limiting wear time to avoid circulation problems.
Fleshlight / Masturbator Sleeve
A sleeve-like toy, often soft and textured inside, designed for penis stimulation. The Fleshlight is a popular branded version with a casing, but masturbator sleeves come in many styles, including realistic or fantasy designs. They are used with lubricant and can enhance solo or partnered play.
Anal Beads
A string of beads or graduated balls designed for anal play. Users insert the beads one at a time and often remove them slowly during orgasm to intensify sensation. Like all anal toys, they must have a flared or secured base to ensure safety.
Strap-On Dildo
A dildo attached to a harness worn around the hips, allowing a non-penis-having partner to penetrate another partner. Strap-ons can be used for vaginal or anal play and come in single or double-ended versions. They are common in pegging and role-reversal play.
Wand Massager
A powerful vibrator originally designed as a therapeutic massager, now widely used as a sex toy. Wand massagers are typically large and plug-in or rechargeable, known for delivering strong external stimulation, especially for clitoral play.
Ben Wa Balls / Kegel Balls
Small weighted balls designed to be inserted into the vagina to strengthen pelvic floor muscles. Over time, they can improve muscle tone, increase arousal, and intensify orgasms. Some users enjoy wearing them during daily activities for subtle stimulation.
Nipple Clamps
Clamping devices placed on the nipples for stimulation and erotic pain. They come in adjustable tension styles or with decorative chains and charms. The nipples have thousands of nerve endings, so clamps can heighten arousal in BDSM or playful contexts.
Prostate Massager
A toy designed specifically to stimulate the prostate gland, often referred to as the "male G-spot." These toys are typically curved and sometimes vibrate to apply direct pressure to the prostate via the anus. Prostate play can enhance orgasms and contribute to overall sexual wellness.
Suction Toys (Clitoral or Penis Suckers)
Modern toys that use air pressure or suction technology to simulate oral sex sensations. Popular for clitoral stimulation, they create a pulsating suction effect instead of vibration. Penis suction toys exist as well, mimicking oral or "blow job" sensations.
Double-Ended Dildo
A long dildo designed to be shared between two partners simultaneously, either vaginally, anally, or a combination of both. They are often flexible and allow face-to-face or back-to-back play. Common in lesbian sex toy play but enjoyed by all genders.
Penis Pump
A device that creates suction around the penis, drawing blood flow into it and producing a firmer erection. Some use pumps recreationally, while others use them for erectile dysfunction treatment. Extended use should be practiced carefully to avoid injury.
Electro-Stimulation Toys (E-Stim)
Toys that use mild electrical currents to stimulate nerve endings, creating tingling, throbbing, or pulsing sensations. E-stim can be applied with pads, probes, or cock rings. It’s an advanced form of play usually associated with BDSM and should be used with proper knowledge of safety.
Bondage Gear (Restraints, Collars, Gags)
Not traditional "toys" but widely categorized as sex accessories. Includes items like handcuffs, rope, spreader bars, blindfolds, and ball gags. They enhance power exchange dynamics, sensory play, and role-play. Safety and consent are critical in their use.
Anal Training Kit
A set of gradually sized butt plugs or anal toys meant to help beginners ease into anal play comfortably and safely. Often includes three or more plugs ranging from small to larger sizes. Useful for preparing the body for anal penetration.
Remote-Controlled Toys
Sex toys (vibrators, plugs, cock rings) that can be controlled wirelessly via a remote or smartphone app. Popular for partner play, even long-distance, as one partner controls the intensity, patterns, or timing of the toy.
Stroker with Technology (Interactive/Motion-Sensing Toys)
Advanced versions of masturbator sleeves that sync with VR porn, webcams, or apps to mimic live or recorded movements. These toys bring interactive realism to solo play.
Chastity Cage
A device worn around the penis to prevent erections or penetration. Used in BDSM and power exchange relationships, often symbolizing control or submission. Made from metal, plastic, or silicone, and secured with a lock.
Feather Tickler
A light, teasing toy used to stimulate the skin by brushing feathers across sensitive areas. Common in sensory play and BDSM, feather ticklers heighten arousal by awakening nerve endings. Often paired with blindfolds to enhance anticipation.
Wartenberg Wheel (Pinwheel)
A spiky metal wheel rolled gently across the skin to create tingling, prickly sensations. Originally a medical tool, it’s now popular in BDSM and sensation play. It can be used lightly for teasing or more firmly for pain play.
Impact Toys (Whips, Floggers, Paddles, Crops)
These toys are designed for spanking, whipping, or striking the body for erotic stimulation. They range from soft leather floggers for teasing to rigid paddles for more intense impact. Always requires consent, safety knowledge, and aftercare.
Temperature Play Toys
Items made from glass, metal, or silicone that can be heated or cooled before use. Ice cubes, warmed dildos, or stainless-steel plugs are common examples. These toys heighten sensitivity by contrasting temperatures on erogenous zones.
Squirting Dildo
A dildo designed with a reservoir that can be filled with liquid (like water or lube) and then squeezed to simulate ejaculation. Adds realism or playful fantasy to penetrative play.
Sounding Rods
Smooth, metal or silicone rods inserted into the urethra (penis opening). Used for advanced sexual stimulation, often associated with medical play or fetish exploration. Sounding carries risks and should only be attempted with sterilized tools and experience.
Nipple Clamps
Clamps attached to nipples to apply pressure, ranging from light to intense. Some are adjustable, vibrating, or connected with chains. They heighten sensitivity and can be part of bondage or power exchange play.
Ball Stretcher / CBT Toys (Cock & Ball Torture)
Specialized toys designed to apply pressure, stretching, or constriction to the penis and testicles. CBT toys are often used in BDSM to play with sensations of pain, pressure, or control.
Tail Plugs
Butt plugs designed with furry or silicone tails attached (fox, cat, pony, etc.). Often used in role-play, cosplay, or pet play scenarios within the kink community.
Sex Furniture (Wedges, Chairs, Swings)
Furniture or support tools designed to make sex positions easier, more comfortable, or more adventurous. Popular items include sex wedges (angled cushions), sex swings (suspended harnesses), and specialty chairs for bondage or positioning.
Edging & Denial Toys
Tools like timed vibrators or chastity cages used to prolong arousal without orgasm. Often part of dominance and submission dynamics, edging toys heighten eventual climax or reinforce control.
Novelty Toys
Playful or humorous sex items that aren’t always practical but add fun, like glow-in-the-dark dildos, vibrating panties, or edible underwear. While more lighthearted, they can be great for breaking the ice or spicing things up.
